Wedding Planners: Are They Necessary?

images (2)As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. This could not be more true when it comes to planning weddings. There are so many unforeseen things that need to be taken care of and things that could go wrong when you are planning a wedding that it would seem foolish not to hire a wedding planner. Even if you are a bit wary of leaving the finer details of your wedding to someone else, you should be able to find a planner that will understand your vision.

Wedding planners will take care of everything, from catering down to the wedding décor. this country has many beautiful locations where a wedding could take place and your wedding planner will help you to make the right choice regarding this. They also know how to get the best value for your money and which suppliers are trustworthy.

While you might think you’ll be able to stick to a budget, it could prove to be extremely hard if you don’t hire a wedding planner. Like any other country in the sense that there will be certain suppliers who charge a ridiculous amount of money. A good wedding planner will be able to see when someone is trying to rip you off.

There is a lot more paperwork and boring phone calls involved in planning a wedding than you think. The days leading up to your wedding should be spent relaxing and making yourself beautiful for your big day. The last thing you want to do is spend the day before your wedding having a screaming match with unreliable decorators who messed up your wedding décor. This is a country that should be explored, especially if you’re travelling from another country to have your wedding here, and you should leave the messy phone calls to a wedding planner while you go sightseeing.

Imagine that on the day of your wedding, you realize you forgot something important. Like a DJ. While it may seem farfetched, people who planned their own weddings can testify to the fact that the sheer amount of things to organize means that a lot slips your mind until it is too late.

Wedding planning is a full time job and unless you’re fortunate enough to be in a financial position where you can get a couple of months off work, you probably won’t have time to organize a wedding. Don’t put unnecessary stress on yourself and your spouse.

You probably have an idea of what you want for your wedding, but most likely it is just a very vague collection of things you like. A wedding planner can help you take your vision and flesh it out into something beautiful. Think of a wedding planner creating a beautiful mosaic that contains the pieces you wanted. Planning your own wedding would be more like sloppy patchwork.

If you’re planning a wedding in this country, but you don’t actually live here, you will definitely need a wedding planner. They’ll be better suited to deal with a foreign country and will take the stress of it all off of you and your spouse.

Going to Shop For Your Wedding Dress? Know These Things

download (4)When you’ve said “yes” to the big question, your psyche will begin considering how you will prepare yourself for the special day. Obviously, you’ve presumably been thinking about this since you were a child thus the style and area of your big day will be clear in your psyche. When you have concurred this with your groom to be, mother, and friends, you’ll have an immense measure of things to start arranging.

Organizing a wedding is no small undertaking, yet for the most part, you will have extraordinary backing from family and companions; however the one choice that it liable to be yours alone will be to pick a wedding dress. Picking a dress design can be very troublesome, and the several kinds of colours accessible can complicate the decisions in addition to the greater part of the integral marriage adornments. Precisely for this reason, getting a second sentiment from family and companions is a wise choice.

The season in which you are getting married will be one of the main components while picking attire. You will require a lighter fabric in case the event is in the late spring. Similarly, during the winter you will have to wear an attire made of heavier fabric which will keep you warm.

Let’s be honest, when it comes to dressing up, most men just can’t comprehend the importance of picking the right one. Honestly, you’re just going to wear that outfit once in your life, and your husband to be may at present feel the slant to get married regardless of what you wear, yet you must understand that a vital factor in making your special day memorable is your attire.

White is not the only colour

White attires aren’t the only option when it comes to bridal wear! More and more brides are picking shaded and designed outfits to demonstrate their uniqueness. Choosing a hued outfit can add an additional dimension to your look, and each one has different portrayals and implications that you might need to consider when settling on your choice.

Finding the right length is key

Yes, these outfits can be either short or long depending upon the sort of function you’re having and the venue. Predominantly, there are certain predetermined rules which should help you choose the right length.

Floor-length gowns are perfect for formal event while if it’s a casual events, you can choose a hemline which you think is best suited to you.

Short, or if nothing else shorter attires are exhorted for easygoing and outdoor events for obvious reasons. You would prefer not to get mud, twigs, leaves or sand on your floor-length originator wedding dress, correct?

Tips For Avoiding Wedding Planning Stress

download (8)Every bride has good intentions when she starts planning her wedding. You envision a beautiful day, surrounded by your family and friends, bursting with happiness and taking in all of the gorgeous details. No bride ever anticipates the pressure that can come with planning such an important day, but it’s inevitable. Everybody feels stressed at some point during their daily lives, and adding wedding planning to your already busy life can be overwhelming.

Remember that you set the tone for the wedding day and the months leading up to it. Those around you will feed off of your energy and if you are stressed, they will feel stressed. Starting off on the right track will not only keep your stress to a minimum, but the stress of the people around you as well.

So how do you get from engaged to I do without losing your mind? Here are some tips for feeling calm and balanced during the wedding planning process.

Have a Plan

The best way to avoid any stress during wedding planning is to start off with a good plan. You and your fiancé must first decide on the type of wedding you’d like to have. Discuss the options with your parents as their input often comes into play as well. If you don’t have a wedding planner, you will be on your own to create a budget plan and wedding planning timeline for the months leading up to your wedding. These are very important! Make this your first step before moving forward.

Create a Realistic Budget

Budget is the number one cause of arguments and stress during the wedding planning process. You have to discuss the budget with your fiancé and anyone else that will be contributing to the wedding – come up with a number that works for everyone and stick to it. Be honest and don’t purchase anything that is over budget without discussing it with your fiancé. Prices vary from city to city, so you might have to do some research to see what average wedding costs are in your area.

Stay Healthy

Eating well and exercising has been proven to reduce stress. Physical activity creates endorphins and improves your mood, while a balanced diet can provide the necessary vitamins and minerals that help reduce stress levels. As little as thirty minutes of exercise three times a week will make a huge difference. A few easy changes to your diet like drinking more water, eating more fruits and vegetables and cutting out fast food will give you the natural defences you need to combat stress.

Find Your Happy Place

This is my favorite and most beneficial tip I can give any bride. We all deal with stress at some point, so you need to find that one thing you can turn to when things get out of control. Whether it’s reading, or getting a massage or a pedicure, yoga, or even if it’s just locking yourself in your bedroom to meditate for five minutes – find something that works for you. When things get too stressful, you are prepared and can automatically turn to your happy place. You’ve heard that expression ‘Just sleep on it’. When you come back from your happy place, you might realize the problem wasn’t even that bad after all, or you’ll come back with the mental focus to face the problem head on and deal with it.

Be Grateful

This will also be a big year for your parents, siblings, close friends and family. They will be asked to throw bridal showers and engagement parties, purchase bridesmaid dresses, and take some time away from their personal lives to help with the planning of your wedding. Be patient and grateful, and make sure to include everyone in the planning process. Often the root of all family issues stems from someone not feeling like they’ve been heard or appreciated. Family dynamics are a part of every wedding, and this can be stressful when everyone has their own ideas and suggestions, and insists on providing their opinions. So patience, forgiveness, and a small thank-you note or a loving hug can go a long way in keeping everyone happy during this time.

Know It Won’t Be Perfect

Let go of the idea that everything has to be perfect. Perfection is impossible to achieve and puts far too much pressure on brides. Every bride wants their day to go perfectly, but I can tell you this, your day will NOT be perfect. Little things will happen that you can’t anticipate, plans may not run exactly to schedule, and people will not always behave or react how you would like them to. In the end, your wedding day will be the perfect day FOR YOU. Have some perspective and appreciate all the good things about the day. Move forward knowing that there will be some bumps in the road, and you will feel less stress when you look at it that way instead of trying to pull off the impossible.

Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff

It can be easy to let your emotions take over when things don’t go how you want them to, especially for the most important day of your life. But if the napkins aren’t the exact color you wanted, or your bridesmaid orders the wrong shoes, or some wording gets mixed up on the invitations – remember there are worse things in life that can happen. Be thankful for the opportunity to be planning such a joyous celebration in the first place. Causing unnecessary drama will only create bad energy for your day.

Have Fun

This is supposed to be fun! If wedding planning is starting to feel more like a job, then you really have to take a step back and re-evaluate. Maybe you need some extra help – wedding planners can step in at any stage of the planning process to take over if you are feeling too overwhelmed or stressed out. Talk to your fiancé and your family – don’t be afraid to delegate some of the jobs so that you aren’t doing it all on your own.

Remember, if the bride is happy, everyone is happy. You set the tone and energy for your wedding day and the months of planning. Making an effort to stay calm and stress free is important to a memorable wedding planning experience. Otherwise you could become overwhelmed and turn into the dreaded Bridezilla, which no bride (or those close to her) wants.

The Wedding Guru’s Tips For Planning An Outdoor Wedding

TIPS FOR PLANNING AN OUTDOOR WEDDING

So you want to have an outdoor wedding? Outdoor weddings are beautiful – nothing is lovelier than a sunny day with a gorgeous white tent set up in an outdoor landscape. Then there are the mosquitoes, oh and the rain. Let’s not forget about the wind. And the heat. Oh and the cold. And the fact that you have to build a venue from the ground up – which requires kitchen space, tables, chairs, bars, a dance floor, washrooms, power, parking… the list goes on. Suddenly that little casual inexpensive backyard wedding you wanted to have is way over budget and has you more stressed out than any bride should be.

I’ve planned many outdoor weddings in my wedding planning career – I’ve seen the way to do it right, and the way to do it very very wrong. An outdoor event, more than any other type of wedding, needs precise planning. My best recommendation is to hire a wedding planner if you plan on hosting your wedding outdoors. It’s money well spent to have it planned properly and to have someone on site to deal with problems that can arise. And remember, the comfort and enjoyment of your guests should be your number one priority, so make sure to keep your guests in mind when planning the details.

My motto with planning tent weddings is ‘Plan for the worse, but hope for the best’. You want to make sure you are prepared for anything! Here are my tips for planning a flawless outdoor wedding.

Budget

Some people think that planning an outdoor wedding will save them money. Nothing is further from the truth! Often times they cost more. It all depends on your vision – if you are happy with a simple tent, basic tables and chairs set up on the grass, and a simple meal for fifty guests – then cost wise you are right on track. But if you want the full kit and caboodle, then you will have to give the budget a lot of thought and do your research. There are so many factors to consider that you wouldn’t otherwise have to if you were having your wedding at a venue. It’s a good idea to do some research on costs before deciding to go ahead with it. Tents and everything that goes with them can be quite pricey.

Tents

You will have to rent a tent or several tents – for the dining area, cocktail and/or dancing area, kitchen, and washroom. You will need a tent large enough to fit all the tables and chairs, a dance floor, bars, and enough room for guests to get around. Make sure to create a proper floor plan so that you know you have enough room for everything and everybody. Couples often forget to make room for people. Two hundred people under one tent waiting in line at the bar can take up a lot of space!

You will also need tented space for the caterers that is located adjacent to the main dining tent. If it rains you don’t want food to get wet. You will also have to consider where the guests will be parking and how they will get to the tent area if it is raining. Many tent companies can provide walk-way canopies to keep guests dry as they walk to the wedding site.

Power

I can’t say this enough – have enough power! All it takes to blow the breaker is plugging in the caterer’s coffee maker, and there goes your lighting and your sound. This could happen all night and it’s a real pain. Hire a company to come in to set up a generator that can provide power for everything. Some folks think they can just plug everything into the outside outlets of their house with extension cords – this will never be enough power to run the needs for an entire wedding. The company that provides the generator will ask you what your requirements are and will set you up with enough power to keep you going all night long.

Weather

Of course, every bride envisions a perfect sunny day for her wedding, but it’s inevitable – Mother Nature can be a real pain! The chances of having the perfect sunny day, with the ideal temperature and a slight breeze are slim. The weather can be unpredictable, so you want to be prepared. If an outdoor wedding is planned correctly you can lessen the impact of Mother Nature. Have several back-up plans, especially if you plan on having your wedding ceremony outside. It’s not a bad idea to book a small tent for the ceremony. If the weather cooperates then you won’t have to use it, but it’s good insurance to have in case the weather isn’t ideal. Otherwise, you will end up having to get married in your dining tent – not what most brides envision for their wedding ceremony!

Washrooms

There are several options when it comes to renting washrooms. The good old porta potty does the trick but we all know how nasty those can be! If you want something that doesn’t smell like raw sewage, you can opt for the washroom trailers that come with air conditioning, lighting, running water and flushing toilets. Make sure to have enough washrooms – this is not the place to scrimp on the budget! One toilet for every 25 guests ensures that line-ups are kept to a minimum. If you have some disabled guests, make sure to accommodate them as well with wheelchair accessible units. You also want to ensure the area is covered from the elements so that guests don’t get drenched when they go to the washroom.

Kitchen

Your caterers need a dry space out of the sun where they can set up. Some caterers come with portable kitchen trailers, but they will still need an area away from the elements to spread out so that they can plate and set up the food. Have some tables set up for them as well as large garbage cans with bags for scraping uneaten food into.

Parking

When choosing the location for your wedding, make sure there will be ample space for parking 100+ vehicles. If the planned parking area is in a field or grassy area, have a plan B in case of rain. The ground can get soft with a lot of rain and cars can get stuck!

Flooring

I know what you are thinking – we are fine on the grass. It’s a backyard wedding – let’s just save some money. I can tell you from experience that flooring is your number one guarantee against rain. Just because you have a tent does not mean that you will be high and dry. If there is even the slightest angle in the ground, which there always is as no ground is perfectly flat, the water will find its way in and create puddles everywhere. I have seen it happen! Flooring allows the water to run underneath it and keeps everything dry. Even better, set the entire tent and it’s flooring up on risers to ensure no water gets in! The best part, your floor will be perfectly level so that tables and chairs will be set up straight and won’t slant because of the soft ground and pesky gofer holes.

Tables and Chairs

Most tent companies have tables and chairs for rent. Make sure that it is in their contract that they set up the tables and chairs. This isn’t something you want to be doing the day before your wedding. Give the floorplan to the tent company and let them do all the heavy lifting. It’s money well spent to save the headache of having to set up all those tables and chairs. And don’t forget chairs for the ceremony! You may be able to use the same chairs for the reception, so ask your rental company about the cost of transferring the chairs from the ceremony to the reception site.

Lighting

Yes, it will get dark – people need to see! Hire a lighting company to come in to set up decorative lighting as well as lighting for the bar area, the kitchen area, washrooms and the path leading to the tent so guests can see where they are going once the sun sets.

Staging

Having a band? You must provide staging for a band so that they are up and off the ground and away from any possible water that could get in the tent from rain. Any DJ equipment must be protected as well and power outlets should be put inside power boxes to keep them away from moisture.

Storage

Wedding set-ups come with a lot of stuff. Have a small tent set up to the side to store the caterer’s equipment, boxes from rental companies, ice machines, etc.

Bars

There are many companies that rent portable bars. Talk to your caterer to see if bartending is a service they provide. If not, there are several bartending companies that can do that for you. They will tell you what you need to set up the bar, but here is the list:

– portable bars

– back tables

– ice (there are many companies that can deliver a freezer full with bags of ice for the entire event)

– alcohol and mix

– glassware

– bar tools (shakers, shot glasses, bottle openers, wine corkscrews)

– garbage and recycling cans with bags

You should also ensure you have a cooler source for beer and wine – either portable coolers or bins of ice.

Air Conditioning / Heat

There are rental companies who can set you up with portable air conditioners and heaters. No one wants to sit in a tent in the sweltering heat. On the other end of the spectrum, even in summer, temperatures can get cool at night, so heating can be a life saver. It’s important to keep your guests comfortable. Check the weather forecast and make last minute preparations if needed.

Bugs

Nothing chases guests away faster than the infamous mosquito. There are many companies out there that can come in and spray for bugs to keep them away on your wedding day. Choose a company with environmentally friendly choices only. You don’t want to be spraying foggy chemicals that can be irritating and get in guest’s food and drinks.

Permits

Check with your local community if you require permits for tents, parking, sound, and alcohol. You want to make sure you have this covered so that you don’t end up with fines and the proper measures are taken to ensure everyone’s safety.

Finding The Perfect Wedding Photographer

download (7)Your wedding photos are something that you’re going to treasure for the rest of your life, so it stands to reason that you should want the best wedding photographer you can get. But how do you know who to go to when it seems like on every corner there’s a wedding photographer? In particular, being such an enormous city and a hub of businesses, is difficult to navigate due to the sheer mass of photography businesses. So, what’s a newly engaged couple to do? Here are a few tips to help you make your decision and come out of your photographer search with satisfying results.

First, you should always take a look at the photographer’s past work. Check out the photographer’s portfolio on their website, and see how versatile they can be. Do the couples in the photos look natural and happy, or are the photos awkward and forced-looking? Speaking of the couples in the photographer’s portfolio, another way to see if a wedding photographer is as good as they seem is to check in with their past clients. Have the couples they’ve photographed before been satisfied? Were there any problems? You can definitely ask a photography company for client contact information and references. Any photographer worth their salt will be happy to oblige.

An important thing to consider is wedding photography prices. This location has a number of wedding photography businesses who will happily charge exorbitant costs for some crummy photos, so it is important to make sure that you don’t confuse expensiveness for quality. Especially since you’ve likely already put down a small fortune for the engagement ring (not to mention the cost of the upcoming wedding and subsequent reception!), you need to be careful and prudent about how you spend your money. Hire someone good, but be practical -don’t blow your money on the most expensive option just because the price sounds promising.

Once you’ve found the right photographer, it’s a good idea to them to do your engagement photos before the wedding. Why? Because a great way to make sure that your wedding photographer is exactly the right person for you is to have them be there to take your engagement photos. Not only will the photography style and lighting choices be more congruent than if you hire two separate businesses for your engagement and wedding photos, but you’ll also be able to evaluate how well the photographer knows how to capture the moment, and whether or not they’re easy to work with. If the photographer is a difficult diva, drop them! It’s your day, not theirs, and you don’t want to be distracted from your own wedding because of problems with the photographer. On the flip side, if the engagement photo session goes off without a hitch, you’ll be all the more comfortable come your wedding day!

You should never have to worry about the small details on the most magical day of your life, so be smart – invest in finding the best wedding photographer.

Save on the Dress Dreams Are Made of – Buy It Used

download (5)Keeping in mind that the dress will likely only be worn once in her lifetime, it makes no sense to most women to break the bank to buy a dress. Most spend 10% of their total wedding budget on the dress, which is crazy when considering it. Pre-owned dresses are a great option. The bride can get a top label dress for a fraction of the cost. Used dresses just make sense. Another option is to rent the dress. Learn more about the options below.

More About Used dresses

Used or pre-owned dresses are a gown that’s already been worn by another bride. They are always in perfect condition because they’ve only been worn once or sometimes never even worn at all. Expect huge discounts on a fairytale dress, which allow for expenses to be fulfilled in other areas of the event.

Secondhand or used dresses are a great choice for brides who have the most exquisite taste but perhaps not the budget. If they don’t mind that it’s been worn before, they can have exactly what they want. In fact, some dresses may even have the original tags on them if the wedding was called off or if the bride found a different dress.

What are the savings?

Expect to get up to 50% off most used dresses. It will depend on how worn it is, and the brand name. If it’s a highly desirable brand then it may be a bit less off the original price, but still a bargain. If the gown is older or has some staining and damage that’s fixable, it can be up to 80% off. The savings could allow for the bride to get accessories for the big day.

What to Know Before Making a Purchase

Before a bride-to-be buys a used dress, she should take some things into consideration to make sure it’s a great choice. First, the gown will likely be altered to fit the previous bride, so just because it is the size listed doesn’t mean it will fit as expected. It’s advisable to go a size or two larger to allow for alterations.

Another option is to ask the exact measurements and size to be sure it allows for alterations. Used dresses and dresses in general are very different from other types of clothing. Knowing the measurements will make sure it will fit.

Final Word

It is completely up to the bride to be whether she can live with a used dress or not. If she is superstitious or she wants the dress to be all hers then it won’t work out well for her mentally. However, the condition should be pristine, so there is no worry there. As long as the dress is properly cleaned it will be in like new condition.

Put the money saved towards the reception, rings, bridal party gifts and the honeymoon, even. There are so many more things that the happy couple can spend their money on, especially when starting a new life together. For most it makes sense, explore what buying a used dress can do to change a wedding for the better.

Step by Step Guide to Plan Your Wedding

images (1)Plan your budget

While planning your wedding, you must have a clear cut idea about how much you can afford to spend. Based on the budget you should finalize the venue and caterers. Some couples fund their own wedding while in some cases parents will share the budget. There are also some parents who fund the entire event. But whatever the case you must fix a budget before finalizing other things.

Find your perfect wedding venue

The second important thing is to plan and finalize your wedding venue. People book venues almost one year in advance. The wedding date depends a lot on the availability of the venue. So you must finalize the venue without any delay. After booking the reception venue, you must decide where you will be spending your first night as a couple. If your wedding reception is not happening in a place with hotel facilities you will have to book a hotel room in advance.

Buy wedding insurance

Wedding is an expensive affair. There are a lot of expenses, from wedding rings, wedding dress, to catering and other wedding essentials; they will cost you a lot. It is better to prepare yourself for the additional costs as well. Purchasing wedding insurance will help you to relax and enjoy your wedding as well as honeymoon without fussing over the expenses.

Select your wedding rings

After fixing the date, venue and purchasing a wedding insurance, you can start the best part of the wedding – shopping for accessories. Wedding ring is not just an expensive piece of jewellery, it is a symbol of bond or love you both share for each other. So choose your wedding ring carefully.

Plan your wedding guest list

This is going to be a tough task. You must have calculated the numbers many times. Make it a point to write down the guest list and go through it several times. You don’t want to miss anyone. The number of guests depends on your budget and also whether you want an intimate/small wedding or a grand wedding with more than 500 guests. Write down the names. Start with your near and dear ones like your close friends and relatives. Then move on to your colleagues, neighbours and acquaintances. After including everyone, you can start removing people off the list. You can even divide the guest list into daytime and evening guests.

Choosing the dress

Buying a wedding dress is the most exciting part of the wedding. There are innumerable choices when it comes to bridal gowns. You will have to choose accessories as well. After choosing your wedding gown you will have to focus your attention on grooms wear, and dresses for bridesmaids and flower girls, to coordinate the wedding party.

Book a wedding photographer

A wedding presents a lot of wonderful moments and to preserve those memories forever you need a good photographer. So book a wedding photographer/videographer. You will also have to book caterers and stage decorators at this stage.

Sending out invites

Start sending wedding invites at least one month in advance so that people can make time to attend your wedding. If you have guests from overseas you will have to send them invites earlier and wait for their replies.
